Meet Nathan Donaldson, a folk singer-songwriter with roots as deep as the Tennessee soil. Hailing from a small town in the heart of the Volunteer State, Nathan's music echoes the stories and melodies of his upbringing.
Nathan began writing songs when he was a teenager and played in a few bands during high school. He met a fellow songwriter named Chase Perryman at a high school party, beginning many years of collaboration. Chase joined his band, Asher, as the drummer and later became the lead singer. Years later, Nathan became the bass player in Chase's band the Nashville-area southern rock band, Chase Perryman and the People Familiar With the Situation.
In 2012, Nathan began work on his first solo album with the help of his bandmates and some of his close musical friends: Daniel Shearon, Cory Flippo, Chase, and Jimmy Bratcher. The album, "Burning Leaves and Paper Airplanes," was a 10-song release. The album featured full band arrangements as well as acoustic singer songwriter tracks. Nathan's lyrical style featured themes of love and loss with melancholic undertones.
In 2017, Nathan moved to Kentucky seeking new career opportunities. Despite leaving his fellow musicians behind, he continued to find an emotional outlet in his songwriting and poetry.
Now, living in Louisville, Kentucky, he's finding a new home in the vibrant music scene of the city. Nathan's soulful tunes and heartfelt lyrics resonate with audiences, weaving tales of love, life, and the joys of the journey. His music captures the essence of both his past and present, making him a promising voice in the world of folk music. Join Nathan on this musical adventure, as he continues to share his stories and melodies with the world.
His latest release "OK Currents" features songs written in the aftermath of the grief and loss following the unexpected passing of his brother-in-law Evan Pilkington. In fact Nathan Dedicated this album to him. The final track on the EP "Beauty but There Is Pain" was written within the 2 weeks following his death and is a particularly meaningful song to Nathan.
"I truly hope that this album is helpful to others who are grieving. Not all of the songs are about grief and loss but I poured myself into each track during a painfully creative period in my life"
